The German Grand Prix should have been another eventful day in the 1976 Formula One season, as both Niki Lauda and James Hunt were starting at the front of the field. However, Lauda would be involved in a career-threatening crash that left him in critical condition. Hunt would go on to win the race, but Lauda's health was the story. We of course know now that Lauda would emerge from this wreck and heroically get back behind the wheel in a matter of weeks, but his injuries were severe.
